The official one-sheet for the new Oren Peli (‘Paranormal Activity’) nuclear horror story ‘Chernobyl Diaries’ was spotted over at iTunes and you can check it out below. The new poster is pretty cool and manages to cleverly blend some ominous looking clouds into a radioactive sign high above the Chernobyl facility in Ukraine. The movie has received some backlash from those who see the film as an exploitation of the disaster that resulted in the deaths of thousands of people and workers in the area through varying levels of radioactive exposure and resulting cancer cases. It’s a difficult argument because it’s by no means the first time something like that has been carried out by the film industry and it all depends on how sensitive to the history the film turns out to be. Arguably all Nazi or war-based horror flicks should be treated the same and what about the most successful film of all time ‘Titanic’? Jonathan Sadowski, Devin Kelley, Jesse McCartney, Olivia Taylor Dudley, Nathan Phillips, Ingrid Bolso Berdal (‘Cold Prey’) and Dimitri Diatchenko all star in the Bradley Parker helmed horror experience.
“Chernobyl Diaries follows a group of six young tourists who, looking to go off the beaten path, hire an “extreme tour” guide. Ignoring warnings, he takes them into the city of Pripyat, the former home to the workers of the Chernobyl nuclear reactor, but a deserted town since the disaster more than 25 years ago. After a brief exploration of the abandoned city, however, the group soon find themselves stranded, only to discover that they are not alone.”
‘Chernobyl Diaries’ opens on 25 May in the US and here in the UK from 22 June.
