‘Afterwards’ follows the story of Nathan. Although he excels in his work, he is haunted by his past as the survivor of a childhood near-death experience and an adult witness to his own child’s death. He meets Doctor Kay (John Malkovich) who introduces himself as a ‘messenger’. Kay claims that he has the ability to know when people are about to die, with his purpose on earth to help individuals put their life in order before it’s too late. Unimpressed by these claims, it is not until Nathan witnesses some disturbing scenes that the doctor’s story is confirmed. There unravels a race against the clock as Nathan tries to put his life in order before it’s too late.
