    Be On Darko DVD!

    BE ON DARKO DVD!

The Director’s Cut of Richard Kelly’s dark sci-fi masterpiece, Donnie Darko, is on its way to the UK. And Empire have a fantastic opportunity for Donnie Darko fans to win themselves a slice of immortality on the DVD, which will be released on October 4 after a limited cinema run.

Simply by sending in your thoughts on how Donnie changed your life, you can be included on the DVD and become a piece of Darko history!

When first released the film became a cult hit here as the British public flocked to see the story of a troubled 15-year-old (Jake Gyllenhaal) and his scary rabbit friend. Those high attendance figures may have been partly due to the patented Donnie Darko ‘I-know-I-liked-it-but-I-have-no-idea-what-just-happened’ syndrome, causing most viewers to request repeat viewings, but the fact still remains that very few people have a bad word to say about the film, with the possible exception of ‘Eh?’

Rejoice, therefore, that Richard Kelly’s Donnie Darko: The Director’s Cut is on its way, and promises to either answer some of those questions the film raised, or pose whole new puzzlers – but either way, it will have extra helpings of Darko goodness. It’s in cinemas from August 27 for 28 days only, in a shiny new HD format. The Directors’ Cut DVD, out on October 4, promises even more special features – and one of them could be you!

Yes, that’s right – we mean you there, by the computer! Along with the film’s lovely distributors, Metrodome, we’re asking readers to write an essay entitled ‘Donnie Darko Changed My Life’. The most interesting entries will earn immortality for their authors on the Director’s Cut DVD as part of a feature on the cultural impact that the film had.

All entrants will be listed in the credits of the featurette, but writers of the winning essays will be interviewed on film for inclusion on the DVD – right up there with Jake and Drew and Frank the Rabbit. The word limit is 1500 words, which should give you enough room to explain why you think you are Donnie’s biggest fan, how the film has changed your life, how it has influenced you and how you look at the world after seeing the film. Then all that remains for you to do is to get ready for your close-up…

To enter, email your efforts to donnie@metrodomegroup.com, or post them to Donnie Darko, 5th Floor, 33 Charlotte Street, London, W1T 1RR. All entries must be received by July 19, so just find your own personal scary rabbit to provide inspiration and get cracking. Winners will be filmed between 20-22nd July, so you must be available between those dates. Immortality! It’s yours! Take it!
