    Boll Say Bloodrayne’s 2nd Best

Speaking to Fango, controversial German director Uwe Boll confirmed that his latest project, BLOODRAYNE (due for theatrical release January 6, 2006) is “the second best film that I have done. My best movie is still HEART OF AMERICA, but BLOODRAYNE is definitely the second best.”

Boll also reveals that the trailer for his next project, DUNGEON SIEGE (yet another video game adaptation) will be shown for the first time before BLOODRAYNE. “DUNGEON SIEGE is an epic adventure, and a very, very long movie—it’s a very long shoot,” he says. “It is totally different from all the other movies I have done before, and it has a $60-million budget. We have Jason Statham as our lead and also Ray Liotta, Burt Reynolds and Ron Perlman. So, castwise, I am in the same happy position as in BLOODRAYNE,” [which features Kristanna Loken, Ben Kingsley and Michael Madsen, among others.

Fans of Hong Kong cinema will also be interested to know of at least one familiar name who worked on DUNGEON SIEGE. “Tony Ching [a.k.a. Ching Siu-Tung], the guy from HERO and HOUSE OF FLYING DAGGERS, is doing our fight choreography, so it looks really, really great,” Boll says. “Stuff that he had never even done in Hong Kong cinema, he is doing on DUNGEON SIEGE. The film is a massive undertaking; we had one and a half years of development and seven months prep, and then we’ve shot for four months and have one month more to go. It will be a massive, epic movie—I don’t know how long it will be, but we might have to do something like KILL BILL: cut it into two parts, perhaps.”

As for his other future projects, the director says, “NIGHT CLAWS will not be happening—even though it is still on the IMDb. I am not attached to this anymore. I was interested in shooting this movie—it is horror—in Germany, but that was one and a half years ago and I have no time anymore. I had a window open, but they didn’t get it ready in time. For FAR CRY, which may be my next project, we are looking for the main actor just now. Jason [THE TRANSPORTER] Statham would be a great Jack Carver, but I don’t know at the moment. I also have a horror movie, written on my own, called SEED. It is based on a true story, and I’m interested in doing this as a smaller movie in between the bigger stuff. We have a great script for HUNTER: THE RECKONING, but for FEAR EFFECT we have no script. We’ve had 15 treatments so far, but I haven’t liked any of them.”

Although Boll does not comment on his rumored involvement with the feature version of the hit video game HALO, he does note that fans of the HUNTER: THE RECKONING game might be waiting a while for its cinematic adaptation. “HUNTER: THE RECKONING is a project that is a little too close to ALONE IN THE DARK,” he says. “That film did well foreign and on DVD, but the theatrical results were not so good in the U.S., and this is why I am not too excited right now to do a similar movie to ALONE. Right now I am focused on DUNGEON SIEGE, FAR CRY and SEED.”
