‘Chronicle’ scribe Max Landis has Tweeted some unfortunate news stating that he won’t be involved with the planned sequel. It appears that Fox have bought in some new writers to pen the follow-up which is quite surprising due to the success of the original and how loyal it was to Landis’ original script. The original, released last year, starred Dane DeHaan, Alex Russell and Michael B. Jordan and saw writer/director Josh Trank make his feature directorial debut. Trank was rumoured to be involved with ‘Chronicle 2’ but Landis goes on to confirm that he was never actually attached to the sequel and most likely won’t return as his main focus right now will be the 20th Century Fox reboot of ‘The Fantastic Four’ due for 2015. “Ultimately, I’m just very grateful to Fox for making a film as close to my original script as Chronicle was.” said Landis. “For making the film at all. So yeah it’s sad that as of right now I’m not involved in the sequel, and don’t know what it’s about even, but ultimately I can’t complain…Chronicle 2 is still probably happening, just not with my involvement as of now. It’s a bummer, but there are no real hard feelings.”
The original ‘Chronicle’ released back in 2012 was about three high school friends who gain superpowers after making an incredible discovery underground. Soon, though, they find their lives spinning out of control and their bond tested as they embrace their darker sides.
