Entering the Next Level of Fear

Horror games are all about being immersed. You need to feel like you’re right there in Silent Hill, the Spencer Mansion or wherever, so that you can truly empathise with the character you play. The more you feel threatened and scared, the better the experience. This can be tough to do when you’re separate from the character you play who’s on your TV or monitor, but with VR you are placed right in the middle. You will be in those scary locations, hear strange sounds and you will be the victim, the prey and the haunted. This will make the game more real and help to elevate horror to the next level.

    Resident Evil Biohazard

VR is already doing great things for horror, with Until Dawn: Rush of Blood being a prominent example. Until Dawn was a success upon release in 2015 and provided an exciting horror adventure. The Rush of Blood spin-off for PlayStation VR allows people to enter the Until Dawn world first-hand and experience the horror for themselves. Other VR ready horror games you can already try include Get Even, Dying: Reborn, Ghost Theory and Here They Live.

Horror games are on the rise and VR is helping that. Resident Evil 7: Biohazard, due in 2017, is set to take the franchise back to it’s roots, focusing more on the horror rather than the action. Introducing a fresh cast of characters, you will find yourself exploring an old mansion as new protagonist Ethan as your search for his missing wife. A demo for the game can already be downloaded so you can get a first glimpse of this new game. VR support is promised, so you can immerse yourself in this new horror title.

Other recent horror games you play include Lady Luck’s Black Widow mobile slots, in which you can win big as in a Gothic themed casino game. Allison Road is inspired by the cancelled Silent Hills/P.T. so you can enjoy that style of game in some form, with Layers of Fear being another similar title. If you’re looking for a bit more action with your horror, then you can try the recent Resident Evil 0 HD Remaster or fight in Mortal Kombat XL, which features several horror movie characters such as Jason, the Predator and Alien.

With VR and a resurgence of popularity for the horror genre, video games are promised to give you a jump, a scare, some chills and a lot of fun.
