Former Adult Swim Star Brett Gelman Joins ‘Stranger Things’

Actor and comedian Brett Gelman, former star of Adult Swim series ‘Eagleheart’, has just signed up for a role on the second season of Netflix’s highly anticipated sci-fi horror series ‘Stranger Things’. The forthcoming season is set to premiere on the streaming network in June 2017 and already it has managed to acquire a fresh ensemble ready to join the nostalgic action. Dacre Montgomery, Finn Wolfhard, Millie Bobby Brown, Gaten Matarazzo, Caleb McLaughlin, Matthew Modine, Cara Buono, Natalia Dyer, Charlie Heaton, Joe Keery, and Noah Schnapp are all set to return and the series already has another couple of 80’s icons joining the show in the form of ‘Goonies’ star Sean Astin and funnyman Paul Reiser.

Gelman is set to play a new character in the second season called Murray Bauman. Bauman is “a disgraced journalist-turned-conspiracy theorist who is investigating a cold case in Hawkins.

‘Stranger Things’ was the surprising big hit this past summer which almost everyone seemed to be taking about. It was a pleasant mix of nostalgia and good old fashioned science fiction entertainment reminiscent of classic 80’s sci-fi. The series itself is the brainchild of the Duffer brothers and they have managed to build a wonderfully unique series that seems fresh and innovative whilst still remaining extremely familiar as well mostly thanks to the many nods and ongoing homage to classic movies of the past.

The show itself is filled with loving references and influences taken from a whole host of classic movies and books that many of us grew up with. The likes of Steven Spielberg, Stephen King, Joe Dante and even John Hughes have clearly managed to etch their influences into the minds of the directors as they’ve pieced together the series and its exciting to see just how the second season will pan out both from a narrative perspective as well as stylistically.

We may still have a little time to wait before the next season is upon us but this time around we do have an extra episode to look forward to as the network has extended the season to 9 episodes in length. And it’ll certainly be worth the wait to once more see and hear that incredible opening credit sequence which always fills us with sheer joy and has that unique quality of taking us back to our childhood even though the whole intro was created especially for the series.
