Horror Movies And TV Continue Their Popularity Throughout 2011

By Horror Asylum on November 14, 2011 News

Horror seems to be an increasingly popular film genre, at least if any inference is to be taken from the massive outpouring of popular horror films and television shows over the course of the last few years. 2011 has been no exception, as this year has featured a number of very popular and/or very intriguing horror films, and this means that for fans of the genre it may be about time to head out to Marks & Spencer for a new television, so that you can enjoy these films as they are released and made available on direct streaming services in the coming months. Here are a few of the most notable horror releases to be getting excited about.

    The Rite
Released early in 2011, The Rite is the year’s only notable exorcism film – which is significant because to many fans of horror, exorcism films almost constitute their own separate sub-genre. The Rite was by no means flawless, but a chilling performance by Anthony Hopkins, who plays a world-famous exorcist who begins wrestling with his own demons, makes it well worth checking out.

    Fright Night
The most noteworthy horror remake of the year features Colin Farrell as the Vampire next door in a neighborhood horror tale. While the film is considered by many to have elements of humor as well, it is undeniably part of the horror genre, and represents a unique and entertaining vampire story at a time when the subject of vampires is being beaten into the ground by bland efforts.

    Paranormal Activity 3
This popular sequel to the widely enjoyed “found footage” franchise was said by many to be the scariest of the three installments thus far. Like its predecessors, the film follows a haunted family through the eyes of video cameras that they themselves set out to record “paranormal activity.”

    Apollo 18
This film seeks to explain why we have stopped sending manned missions to the moon, and follows the final (undocumented) mission by American astronauts to the moon. Though the film was panned by critics, it can be very enjoyable for fans of the found footage genre.

    Moon-Based Frightener 'Apollo 18'

Fans of horror will no doubt realize that these are just a few of many more horror movies that came out in 2011. However, these were in many ways some of the more significant releases, many of which should already be available for you to stream at home. This year has marked yet another significant season for the horror genre, and as long as demand and enjoyment stay high, there seems to be no reason for Hollywood to stop churning these movies out in the coming years.
