Fancy dress parties, pumpkins and scary movies on TV can only mean one thing; Halloween has arrived! Every year we seem to become more engrossed in the spooky, gory and downright terrifying, constantly looking for new ways to get involved with Halloween festivities.

For slot gamers, the good news is that you don’t have to look far to enjoy a horror-themed slot machine, thanks to the gigantic range of themes and designs that suit every niche. From ghouls and ghosts to vampires and werewolves, there’s a scary slot theme with everyone’s favourite evil characters appearing across the reels. We’ve profiled 5 of the best to help you get in the mood for Halloween and win some big money whilst you’re at it!

    Bloodsuckers

From Twilight to True Blood, it’s almost impossible to avoid the modern generation of vampire films that have rekindled our love affair with all things bat. Bloodsuckers lets vampire fans enjoy the idea of being able to fly, drink blood without questions and suddenly develop terrible allergies to sunlight and garlic.

The 5 reel virtual machine has a certain Victorian theme to it, a throwback to the classic Dracula films and An Interview with the Vampire. There aren’t any typical playing card symbols found on the reels, with all images vampire related. A clove of garlic, magic potion vial and a mixture of vampire slaying tools make up the reel images, whereas characters like the evil count Dracula and a creepy Nosferatu-type character make up the scatter symbols.

Keep an eye out for the bonus symbols (bloody stakes) which unlock free spins and of course the great mini-game, where you must choose coffins and slay vampires. The game has been such a success that there is a now a Bloodsuckers II, which is also worth a try.

    Bloodshot

Based on the dark comic book series which features a super-solider injected with regenerative Nano-computers who is out for answers and revenge, this dark and spooky series now has its own great slot game packed with characters and images from the series.

Spiked knuckles, a katana sword and grenades make up the standard symbols across the 5 reels, with characters from the books making up the scatter symbols. A picture of Bloodshot makes up the bonus symbol, with 3 linked together taking players to the multiplier round. Keep an eye out for the creepy spider-like blood nanites too, which crawl across the reels dropping wilds as they go.

The 40 paylines and different wild varieties allow for bigger wins on Bloodshot and gameplay is kept exciting with explosions, toxic smoke and great reel symbol animations when winning combinations are unlocked.

    A Nightmare on Elm Street

This classic from the Master of Horror himself Wes Craven sparked a series of movies featuring the evil serial-killer janitor Freddy Kruger. The 5 reel slot is based on the 2010 remake, featuring the young victims and bloody playing card numbers as the man symbols. Freddy himself stands to the side of the reels, intimidating players as they try to link together symbols and scattered wilds to unlock coin wins and the bonus games.

The Never Sleep Again mini-games is unlocked when 3 bonus symbols are linked together. Players must choose from a variety of objects to help them stay awake, including a cup of coffee, a phone call to a friend or a loud TV, with prizes collected based on how many items are chosen.

There are also tons of free spins, a pick me feature which allows players to reveal prizes under wild symbols and of course a progressive jackpot, which gets bigger as more people play the game, but doesn’t reset to zero if someone else does win, giving everyone a chance at winning a life-changing sum of money.

    Zombies

The shuffling hordes of the dead are now super-popular thanks to The Walking Dead and 28 Days Later, and slot players can even get a piece of the action with Zombies from NetEnt. The 5 reel, 20 payline provides plenty of suspense and bloody action, as well as fun mini-games and wild animations that keep gameplay fast and furious.

The reel images and scatter symbols are made up of zombie-bashing weapons including an axe and baseball bat, as well as disgusting eyeballs and brains. The soundtrack is also absolutely terrifying, with heartbeats and dramatic chords playing when wild symbols are linked up. A vial of the zombie plague appears as one of the bonus symbols and scattered wilds unlock free spins and prize payouts. Definitely one to play late at night with plenty of jump scares included!

    FrankenCash

Based on Frankenstein’s monster, this fun 5 reel slot games isn’t as scary as some of the others on this list, but is still packed with fun Halloween themes and plenty of monsters, mad scientists and magic potions. Players must link together themed symbols, with images of the poor monster strapped to an electric chair unlocking the bonus round. Here, you need to choose a voltage with which to fry the big green guy, unlocking huge payouts and free spins the higher the number.

The big feature is the electric level however, which multiplies win by as much as 50 if 5 wilds are matched across the reels. That’s a lot of coins! With fun gameplay and plenty of cool animations, this one can be played any time of the year and not just at Halloween.

With these 5 scary slots, we guarantee Halloween evening will be a fright-fest jam packed with scary action and hopefully some big wins. Just don’t forget to the answer the door when the trick-or-treaters call by and definitely don’t ignore that creepy vampire standing behind you right now.
