Screamify Inks Development Deal with Award-Winning Filmmaker Ty Huffer for New Horror Feature

Following festival acclaim for his short Three Houses Down, Huffer teams with Screamify to develop a practical-effects-driven folk horror feature slated for a 2026 release.

Screamify™, the independent horror streaming platform, has signed a development deal with writer/director Ty Huffer to produce and distribute his first feature-length horror film, slated for release in 2026. The project, currently untitled, is planned as a modern folk-horror tale involving a Norwegian black metal band, a witch, and a farm family. Huffer intends to shoot the film using all practical effects with no AI technology, staying true to the hands-on gore and creature work that characterized his earlier projects. The FX team includes award-winning artists James Fairley (Longlegs, The Monkey, Deadpool 1–2) and Ret Harrison (Three Houses Down), a graduate of Tom Savini’s Special Make-Up Effects program. This deal marks Screamify’s latest venture into original content production, aligning with the platform’s mission to champion independent horror filmmakers and bring fresh voices directly to fans.

Festival-Winning Three Houses Down Sparks Collaboration

Huffer first garnered attention in the horror community with his award-winning short film Three Houses Down, a seven-minute Christmas horror flick packed with holiday hysteria. The cheeky yuletide shocker – in which a family faces off against a murderous elf on Christmas Eve – was screened at 41 film festivals worldwide, racking up 17 awards and 13 additional nominations. Its festival success, including a showing at the noted FrightFest UK, put Huffer on the map as an emerging genre talent. Early in 2025, Screamify executives caught Three Houses Down during its festival run and were impressed by Huffer’s inventive blend of horror and humor. The platform not only pursued a feature deal with the Seattle-based filmmaker but also picked up Three Houses Down for streaming – the short is now set to premiere for Screamify members as part of the platform’s “Christmas in July” horror lineup.

“When we saw Three Houses Down on the festival circuit, we knew right away that Ty had a bold new voice in horror that we wanted to amplify,” said a representative from Screamify. “His commitment to practical effects and imaginative storytelling is exactly what Screamify was built to support. We’re excited to help bring his vision – complete with witches, metal music and all – to life as a feature film for our audience.

A New Screamify Original Slated for 2026

While specific plot details of Huffer’s feature remain under wraps, the concept promises a unique fusion of heavy-metal subculture and supernatural terror. By involving a touring black metal band, an alleged witch, and an unsuspecting farm family, Huffer’s upcoming film aims to put a fresh spin on folk-horror tropes. Importantly, the production will rely on practical makeup and creature effects without leaning on CGI or AI, a filmmaking approach that hardcore horror fans appreciate for its authenticity.

With Huffer’s film now in development, Screamify continues to demonstrate its commitment to empowering indie creators – an approach that sees subscriber revenue reinvested into new projects and talent rather than big studio formulas. This feature will join Screamify’s growing slate of original productions debuting in 2026, as the platform expands its library of exclusive content for horror enthusiasts.
