    The Crazed Ladies of Horror

With Father’s Day right around the corner you think it would give us a good chance to revisit some of the classic moments in horror where “daddy issues” have had some heavy influence on some of the major and most terrifying goings-on in horror movie history. However we thought we’d go the other way. Let’s face it boys there’s usually one thing that makes us all go a little mad sometimes and that’s the women in our lives. Vengeful mothers, twisted girlfriends and completely unpredictable females make up our list where sisters really are doing it for themselves.

    PAMELA VOORHEES (FRIDAY THE 13TH)
There’s nothing more terrifying than taking a chance, taking a gamble, playing your luck and to have it all backfire. You might lose at the roulette table, back a horse that is pipped at the post or miss out on a win at the https://www.onlinepokies.site but when you drive up to a formerly abandoned summer camp where a kid drowned and subsequent murders were carried out and it just so happens to fall on one of the unluckiest days of the year you know good fortune won’t be heading your way.

In Sean Cunningham’s classic 1980 slasher ‘Friday the 13th’ there’s was plenty of what we would now consider to be clichéd horror action on the go. Sex, drugs, nudity and general teenage escapism and naughtiness where order of the day but when a pained mother looking for revenge gets involved it soon became an utter bloodbath. Former camp cook Pamela is unforgiving as she kills off new camp counsellors as retribution for the sad death of her now iconic son Jason Voorhees. A truly ruthless mother who simply can’t let her little boy go.

    MARGARET WHITE (CARRIE)
Overbearing mothers are nothing new in the ream of horror and Margaret White is right up there as one of the best. Maggie is one heck of an unhinged mother and the role, beautifully played by Piper Laurie, in Brian De Palma’s superb working of the novel by horror maestro Stephen King, saw Miss Laurie transform into the domineering and ridiculously religious mum who completely tyrannised her young shy daughter.

The 17-year old Carrie was a little odd, a little quiet and a little gifted to say the least. But with an abusive unforgiving mother like Margaret in her face day in and day out its no surprise that she’s grown up a little skewed. Unfortunately for Mrs White her daughter is a little tougher than she could have ever imagined. Carrie happens to have telekinetic powers which soon help the young lass gain revenge on all those who have done her wrong, and the once powerless teenager faces her mother ready to unleash her pent-up rage which has brutal, deadly and bloody consequences.

    ANNIE WILKES (MISERY)
Perhaps something happened to author Stephen King as a child to be able to create such a rich selection of truly deranged women over the years. In fact let’s not pull at that thread as there’s plenty of disturbing things going on in the vast majority of his novels to date. Aside from the overbearing Margaret White figure from Carrie it was apparent saviour Miss Annie Wilkes who soon turned out to be as unstable and unpredictable as a woman could possibly be.

Superfan Wilkes is in her element when her favourite author gets involved in a car accident leaving her with no other option than to take writer Paul Sheldon back to her remote home and fix him up. But this godsend isn’t all it seems as things quickly go awry as Sheldon regains his strength. He becomes a prisoner and has to do all he can to outwit and getaway from his increasingly unbalanced host. There’s no point passing the time with a game at https://www.jackpotscasino.org or re-watching your favourite episodes of ‘Lost’ you need an escape plan. Of course when this “dirty birdy” pulls out a sledgehammer and goes on an ankle bashing rampage it’s not just going to be a simple case of running out the front door.
