    Femme Fatale Film Series

Matt emailed in and wanted to make us aware of a very film special series he has going on at the Carolina Theatre of Durham in Durham, NC. Here’s a little bit of background on who they are and what they’re working on for this Fall.

“The Carolina Theatre of Durham, Inc. announces the creation of THE FEMME FATALE FILM SERIES, a new film series that will take place in September and October, 2006 in Fletcher Hall at the historic Carolina Theatre. This new film series marks a radical new direction for film events at The Carolina Theatre. Known for producing such innovative film festivals as the NEVERMORE Film Festival, the North Carolina Gay & Lesbian Film Festival, the Escapism Film Festival and the popular monthly Retrofantasma film series, this new festival adds a decided new appeal by bringing well-known actresses to appear live in person in Durham to introduce their films and to answer questions from the audience.

On Saturday, September 16, the exclusive presentation by Dee Wallace of Stephen King’s Cujo marks the first time in cinematic history that Wallace has appeared to host this film classic. With over 100 film credits to her name, including The Hills Have Eyes and The Howling, Wallace’s name is forever linked with many classic films that have developed huge fan followings. Wallace has worked as an actress, teacher, dancer and author in film, television and stage for over thirty years. She is well known for her starring appearance in one of America’s most celebrated films E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial directed by Steven Spielberg.

In a rare appearance on Friday, October 6, Nancy Allen will host Brian De Palma’s Dressed to Kill. Her starring role in Carrie cemented her reputation as a true femme fatale, Allen was married to director De Palma for several years during which she starred in Home Movies, Blow Out opposite John Travolta, Steven Spielberg’s 1941, The Philadelphia Experiment and Poltergeist III. After her divorce from De Palma she scored her biggest box-office hit with Robocop (and its sequels) in 1987.

The exclusive presentation by Jessica Harper of Dario Argento’s Suspiria on Friday October 13, marks only the second time that she has appeared in the United States to host Dario Argento’s masterpiece. Harper studied voice and modern dance and made her debut on Broadway in Hair. She later scored her first major film role in Brian De Palma’s rock opera, Phantom of the Paradise. She has over a dozen feature film credits to her name including Love and Death, Woody Allen’s Stardust Memories, Pennies From Heaven and Minority Report.

In another exclusive rare appearance, Adrienne Barbeau will host John Carpenter’s classic The Fog on Friday, October 20. Barbeau’s career spans forty years and is still evolving. Her film roles include Escape From New York, Swamp Thing, Cannonball Run and Creepshow. Off screen, Barbeau is the voice of Catwoman in Batman: The Animated Series. Barbeau’s other remarkable achievements include a starring role on Broadway in Fiddler on the Roof and a Tony nomination for her role of Rizzo in the original Broadway production of Grease. She is well-known for her television role of Carol in the series Maude and has recently authored a collection of stories about her life titled There Are Worse Things I Could Do.

All of these talented actresses will introduce their films and will host a question and answer session after each movie for their fans. Tickets are $15 per film or a $50 to purchase a package for the four films. Tickets are available beginning June 19 at 11:00 a.m. and can be purchased at the Carolina Theatre box office located at 309 West Morgan Street from 11a.m.-6 p.m., Monday through Friday and weekends from 1:30 p.m.-9 pm, or by phone at (919) 560-3030.
