Top Horror Video Games of All Time

If you find that the regular platform games just don`t cut the mustard anymore then why not scare yourself stupid with any one of these classic horror games. Tried, tested and guaranteed to terrify you to your wits end. The list below contains some of the world`s best selling horror video games of all time.

Silent Hill 2 – Intensely scary right from the start. Silent Hill 2 is filled with all manner of different dark and disturbing puzzles to complete and enemies to outwit, keeping you hooked right through to the final sequence.

Resident Evil 4 – Resident 4 really doesn`t need much introduction. The forth game in the incredibly popular `undead shoot`em up` series and definitely the best of the bunch. Great graphics and spine tingling animation creating one of the greatest horror games of all time.

Dead Space – The storyline shines through in Dead Space and is often likened to the smash hit cult classic, Event Horizon. You play the part of an engineer, marooned on stricken space station with thousands of Alien-like creatures to contend with. If you are of a jumpy disposition then this one is going to be an experience.

Bioshock – Bioshock stands out from the crowd and is considered by many as being one of the most psychological games of all time. The dark atmosphere and disturbing creatures hiding throughout every level of the game make this a truly great horror first person shoot`em up.

Eternal Darkness: Sanity`s Requiem – One of the very best, highly acclaimed horror game on the Nintendo Game Cube. The game features a sanity meter increasing as you progress through the levels, twisting the reality of the game and introducing new elements to the world of horror video games.

Dead Rising – The storyline around Dead Rising is loosely linked to the original cult classic zombie film, Dawn of the Dead. If you are looking for non-stop action from start to finish with endless hoards of groaning zombies to battle then nothing else quite stacks up.

The Suffering – Most of the top horror games of all time included on this list are based around first person shoot`em ups but The Suffering challenges the norm by providing a supernatural encounter. The gameplay isn`t the best and can`t really compete with RE4 or Silent Hill but the story line is deep, dark and intense and just had to be included.

House of the Dead 4 – Another fantastic zombie shoot`em up and the latest in the House of the Dead range. When used in conjunction with the motion sensing laser gun, this game really comes into its own.

Fatal Frame 2: Crimson Butterfly – A strange game and included purely for this reason. This supernatural thriller sees you battling the ghosts and ghouls with your trusty camera rather than an automatic rifle. A strange concept but you`ll find it realy does work with the storyline. If you`ve had enough of the never ending shoot`em ups then give this one a chance.

The list of games above not only includes the latest games but also features plenty of classic games created over the past few years. If you are building your game collection and are in need of a helping hand when it comes to deciding what video games to include, then no true collection is complete without a handful of these amazing horror video games.
