    Updated Friday Night Fright

John Gray, director of the religious horror film JOB and from Pitofhorror.com gave Fango an update on his newly launched horror fest series Friday Night Frights, which we first told you about here. Produced in conjunction with the Dallas Movie Guide and to be held every second Friday of the month at The Movie Tavern in Denton, TX (916 West University Drive at University and Carroll), the southern-fried event kicks off July 14 at the Movie Tavern in Denton, TX with a midnight screening of FRIDAY THE 13TH PART VII: THE NEW BLOOD, and an appearance by the films star, Dallas native Lar Park Lincoln.

Says Gray of the series, “There will be midnight horror flicks from many subgenres that range from blockbusters to the obscure. From Freddy and Jason to Italian gorefests and cult classics, there will be something for everyone from the casual, curious moviegoer to the horror fanatic.”

The promoters aim to give something special to their audiences, and promise that every showing will be either in 3-D, from a print not available on DVD or with a special guest appearance (usually a director or actor from the film). Additionally, they state that The Movie Tavern is a great place to eat, drink and enjoy a classic show with an appreciative audience. Following of the July event, Friday Night Frights August 11 lineup will feature a pair of ’80s slasher flicks: 1981s Linda Blair-starrer HELL NIGHT and a rare screening of 1981s THE BURNING (currently unavailable on DVD), the first feature film of actors Jason Alexander and Holly Hunter.

With such noteworthy genre programming and tickets costing only $10, Gray states, “This is something that I have dreamed about doing for years. I know that I am not the only one out there who wants to have a beer, eat some great food and watch FRIDAY THE 13TH VII next to Lar Park Lincoln! We have also taken the time to locate the actual 35mm prints for these films, so expect to see them just like you would have back in the day!”

As for future programming, Gray reveals, “We also plan to have a show every week in the month of October, showing HALLOWEEN 1-4 with guests, and a 20th-anniversary showing of TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE 2 with cast and crew.” Moving into the holidays, Gray plans for a December 22 double feature of Bob Clark’s 1974 cult fave BLACK CHRISTMAS and the controversial 1984 Santa-on-a-rampage flick SILENT NIGHT, DEADLY NIGHT. Anyone able to attend this Friday’s festivities is encouraged to put their bodies in those seats. “We want to make sure we can do this again,” Gray says, “so horror fans unite and make this a success!” For more info, visit the Pit of Horror site linked above or the fest¡’s MySpace page for updates.
