SCHUMACHER ON PHANTOM OF THE OPERA
IGN Filmforce talked to director Joel Schumacher about his new version of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Phantom of the Opera, to star Gerard Butler, Emmy Rossum, Alan Cumming and CiarHinds. Schumacher says shooting starts in October with Lloyd Webber financing the project himself.
He says Lloyd Webber doesn’t really know yet what he wants to see on the screen and as a far as the story, that’s up to Schumacher. ‘He’s left that up to me. He’s not really a film person. He’s really a theater person. He doesn’t claim to be a film guy.’
Schumacher adds that you can expect changes to the orchestrations. ‘The music will be re-invented for this film. Remember, these orchestrations were done sixteen years ago.’
