First it was ‘The Amazing Spider-Man’ hottie Emma Stone who was forced to pull out of Guillermo del Toro’s spook house feature ‘Crimson Peak’ and now it appears that another cast member is having to leave the project. The ghostly production which is said to be a classical but at the same time amodern take on the traditional ghost story doesn’t kick off until early 2014 and now according to the Hollywood Reporter Brit star Benedict Cumberbatch -below (‘Star Trek into Darkness’) has exited the horror for unknown reasons. Previous cast members Charlie Hunnam (‘Pacific Rim’) and Jessica Chastain (‘Zero Dark Thirty’) are still on board. Stone of course was replaced fairly quickly with ‘Stoker’ star Mia Wasikowska but no word just yet on who will fill Cumberbatch’s boots.
Just why Cumberbatch left is a mystery and his own reps even claim its not due to schedule conflicts. So perhaps there’s another more interesting project out there for the actor which he’s keen on but is still yet to sign the dotted line. Or perhaps the busy star just fancies a little time off.
‘Crimson Peak’ is set to begin shooting in February 2014.
