Spanish director Juan Antonio Bayona (‘The Orphanage’) is lining up his newest directorial project which we already know to be an adaptation of ‘A Monster Calls’, a children’s fantasy novel by British author Patrick Ness. It’s not scheduled to hit theatres until 14 October 2016 so a lot can happen in the meantime but it’s the beautiful Brit actress Felicity Jones -below (‘The Amazing Spider-Man 2’) who has stepped up first to lend her acting skillset to the cast list according to the folks over at Deadline. Cutie Jones will play the role of Mum. Liam Neeson (‘Taken’) is also currently being tapped up for the role of the ‘monster’. The fantasy project will no doubt involve a lot of production particularly in the FX department so that may have a lot to do with the way off release date. It may also be taking into account some pre-production work which may have to be carried out by the director on his other genre project – zombie sequel ‘World War Z 2’.
“The film tells the tale of a young boy who attempts to deal with his mother’s illness and the bullying of classmates by escaping into a fantastical world of monsters and fairy tales that deal with courage, loss and faith.”
‘A Monster Calls’ will be distributed by Focus Features domestically, Universal Pictures International for its theatrical and home entertainment release in Spain and Lionsgate International throughout the rest of the world.
