HAS FOX RESURRECTED ALICE?
Shepherded for months by director Wes Craven, American McGee’s Alice was once an ambitious computer game-turned-film project in development at Miramax’s Dimension films. For months we heard progress reports and false casting rumors. Then the inevitable flatline came and Craven confirmed that Alice was deader than a doornail.
However, the film rights have been rescued by 20th Century Fox.
That’s according to Creature Corner scooper, Josh, who recently spoke with American McGee and claims that all of the Alice rights have been shifted over to Fox – a studio who originally dropped the ball in the deal-making process when this property was first up for grabs.
McGee also says that ‘…the chances of [Alice] being made are much higher now that it’s away from Dimension/Miramax. So all of this is a good thing.’
Craven’s involvement, if any, is an unknown right now. Fox might start with a clean slate and abandon any work Wes may have accomplished, that is, if they truly have the rights. Keep watching this space for more details as they come in.
