FRESH MEAT FOR 2005
Dog Soldiers fans are going to have to slog through one more year of Internet news, and undoubtedly enticing on-set pics, before they ever see the release of the next entry, Dog Soldiers 2: Fresh Meat.
That’s according to Dog Soldiers’ writer/director Neil Marshal who passed this and other interesting information along to the UK’s Hotdog Magazine. Marshal won’t be returning behind the camera this time out but he will be attached with a ‘story by’ and producing credit. He told Hotdog that Fresh Meat will begin lensing sometime early next year for release in the first quarter of ’05.
Kevin McKidd will be reprising his role, going nose-to-nose with some more lycanthrope danger. But what is the plot of Fresh Meat? Well, we know that the film will take place almost immediately after the first and, as stated by Marshall, will involve ‘the magic of DNA and the sheepdog from the first movie.’
This storyline is a vast departure from Marshal’s original blueprint for the next two films. Initially, he hoped to pit McKidd against new ‘classic monsters’ in each film with the second installment about a ‘haven’ of vampires and the third about ‘Frankenstein-like zombies.’ Thanks to the Hugh Jackman-starring Van Helsing those plans will never see fruition.
In other Marshal news, his latest script, Outpost, is working distributors in a frenzy. This film, which was, again, anticipated as the third Dog Soldiers chapter, finds the crew of an ocean oil rig battling fifty ‘speedy, blood hungry, balls-to-the-wall’ zombies. The script for this one is going to be completed shortly.
