CLUB MED TO SUE DREAD
Variety reports that Club Med resorts have filed a federal trademark lawsuit against Fox Searchlight to stop the release of Broken Lizards slasher comedy CLUB DREAD. The company, which states that two-thirds of its business comes from families, objects to the films staging of multiple murders in a setting whose name is a little too close for comfort, according to Club Med VP of marketing Mark Wiser. The suit seeks not only for the films opening to be halted but for the destruction of anything containing the movies title, including all prints and posters. Wiser has even suggested alternate monikers, like BLOODWISER, McMURDER or COCA-KILLER, though he didnt say whether the owners of those referenced trademarked names would mind having them co-opted. Presuming the suit isnt successful, Fox Searchlight will open CLUB DREAD, directed by Jay Chandrasekhar and co-starring Bill Paxton and Jordan (CABIN FEVER) Ladd, on February 27.
