CLUB MED TO SUE DREAD
Variety reports that Club Med resorts have filed a federal trademark lawsuit against Fox Searchlight to stop the release of Broken Lizard?s slasher comedy CLUB DREAD. The company, which states that two-thirds of its business comes from families, objects to the film?s staging of multiple murders in a setting whose name is ?a little too close for comfort,? according to Club Med VP of marketing Mark Wiser. The suit seeks not only for the film?s opening to be halted but for the destruction of anything containing the movie?s title, including all prints and posters. Wiser has even suggested alternate monikers, like BLOODWISER, McMURDER or COCA-KILLER, though he didn?t say whether the owners of those referenced trademarked names would mind having them co-opted. Presuming the suit isn?t successful, Fox Searchlight will open CLUB DREAD, directed by Jay Chandrasekhar and co-starring Bill Paxton and Jordan (CABIN FEVER) Ladd, on February 27.
