LOTS MORE RIDDICK NEWS
Lots of new info starting to pour in about THE CHRONICLES OF RIDDICK, including one guy’s positive review of the screenplay, which he says ‘…lives up to all expectations and is better than the original Matrix. Oh, and it’s dark as well!’
Universal is ‘going Matrix’ on this film as well, with a CHRONICLES DVD anime called TCOR: DARK FURY ready for release on June 15, 2004 (the film comes out on June 11th). You can already pre-order the flick at Amazon.com, right here. More info about the DVD, and the voice talent behind it, right here.
Universal will also be re-releasing two new DVD versions of PITCH BLACK (TCOR is a prequel to that film) in both an R-rated and Unrated Director’s Cuts, each in separate widescreen or fullscreen editions. No extras have yet to be announced on the discs, but as per any product in the world nowadays, both are pre-orderable through Amazon.com right now, by clicking either here or here.
And as if all that wasn’t enough for you, Vin’s own gaming company called Tigon, and Vivendi-Universal, are preparing to come out with the CHRONICLES OF RIDDICK videogame, right around the same time as the film’s release. Holy shit…is that enough peripheral products for you? You can already read a positive review of the game, over at IGN, by clicking right here.
Lastly, if you’re interested in reading the ‘novelization’ of the film before its release in June, you can pre-order its trade paperback book right now, over at (you guessed it!) Amazon.com, by clicking right here. The book is based on the screenplay by director David Twohy. And speaking of the man with the plan, click here to read some of David’s thoughts behind the film. I wasn’t actually aware that unlike the original PITCH BLACK, which only cost $20 million, this movie had a budget of $120 million, and is likely to spawn 2 more sequels, if all goes well in this round. Lots of folks, including the director himself, are comparing these films to greater ‘epic adventure’ movies like LORD OF THE RINGS and STAR WARS, so it’ll be interesting to see how this all turns out when the film is finally released. Its next big test will be its first real trailer, which hopefully for us, will feature LESS boring narration by Judi Dench and more ass-kicking by Vin Diesel!!!
