BRING CARPENTER BACK
Creature Corner reports:
‘How would you like to be able to one day tell your offspring, proudly, that you were the man or woman patially responsible for the resurrection of John Carpenter’s career? I’m sure most of us would love to have that honor, and now Creative Screenwriting Magazine is throwing all of us a chance to be able to utter those very words.
CS Daily, the online news service hosted by Creative Screenwriting, is offering a contest up to it’s members to write a script for John Carpenter to direct. Simple as that. They’re asking for scripts that have that Carpenter ‘feel’ to them, creepy, atmospheric, suspensful…like the good old days. Anything not fitting those standards will be promptly thrown out and the writer fined up to $100,000. All right, no fine, but it will be discarded viciously, I’m sure.
The prize is a $500 option on their screenplay against a six-figure purchase price (not sure exactly what that means, but I’m sure the CS guys do), and to see your script made into a film by a living horror master. The only catch, and it’s not a bad one at all, is that you have to be a subscriber to CS Daily in order to enter. The good news is you can become one at their official site, located here.
Some would say this is sad day for Carpenter if he can’t even come up with a new movie to direct, but I would point those someones to every single film he’s made after In The Mouth of Madness. He’s now tapped into a massive well of creative people (some of them readers of this very site, I’m sure) and it could be the best thing he could possibly do for his career right now.’
