Variety reports that Elisabeth Harnois has been signed to star in SOLSTICE, the new movie by BLAIR WITCH PROJECT co-creator Dan Myrick. Written (with Ethan Erwin and Marty Mustov) and to be directed by Myrick, the film is a remake of Danish director Carsten Myllerup’s 2003 thriller MIDSOMMER, and begins shooting this week in New Orleans, having been delayed from its late-2005 original start date by Hurricane Katrina. Harnois, who began as a child actress in ONE MAGIC CHRISTMAS and the thriller WHERE ARE THE CHILDREN? before taking more adult roles recently in PRETTY PERSUASION and the supernatural series POINT PLEASANT, plays Megan, a young woman who brings together a group of friends at a lake house at the titular time following her twin sister’s suicide. Strange occurrences convince Megan that her sister’s spirit is trying to contact her, but a much more dangerous presence begins to haunt them instead. Shawn Ashmore (the X-MEN films’ Iceman) and Tyler (ROAD TO PERDITION) Hoechlin also star.
SOLSTICE is being produced by Endgame Entertainment, which also backed STAY ALIVE, another Big Easy-lensed chiller that opened this past weekend from Hollywood Pictures to a stronger-than-expected $11.2-million gross. An official website for SOLSTICE has been started up here.
