SALEMS LOT SET TO FILM
The TV remake of Stephen Kings Salems Lot is set to film this month, inside is all of the details regarding this film which stars Rob Lowe and Rebecca Gibney…….
The Daily Telegraph reports, ‘VAMPIRES are sharpening their fangs ahead of their descent on an Australian country town for the filming of a US mini-series based on Stephen King’s novel Salem’s Lot.’
‘The $25 million production starring Rebecca Gibney and West Wing star Rob Lowe will convert the tiny township of Creswick, northwest of Melbourne, into snow-covered New England when filming begins later this month.’
‘Salem’s Lot is a vicious take on the perfect all-American community, with Lowe playing the lead role of Ben Mears, a journalist who returns to his home town to discover it has been infiltrated by vampires. ‘
‘Locations manager Alistair Reilly said American cars would line the streets and artificial snow would create the wintry atmosphere of the best-selling novel. ‘
‘Reilly said that after a state-wide search, Creswick was found to have the right look.’
‘We wanted a town with rolling hills and pine trees in the background that could be seen from the main street and Creswick fitted the bill,’ he said.’
‘The producers also have tapped into a rich vein of movie extras, with the locals getting the taste for acting.’
‘The local shire council’s film liaison officer, Rebecca Clohesy, said residents were becoming ‘old hands’ in the movie business with the nearby towns of Clunes used in Ned Kelly and Trentham providing the backdrop for the Bonanza prequel, Ponderosa. ‘
‘Some of the extras in Ned Kelly got a real bug for it and they’re very excited to be part of the movie scene again,’ Clohesy said.’
‘Filming is expected to last about two weeks, with the four-hour mini-series to be shown on US cable television and possibly on Australian screens. ‘
‘Salem’s Lot will be directed by Mikael Salomon who directed the US mini-series Band of Brothers’.
