According to The Hollywood Reporter, Renee Zellweger will star in Paramount’s upcoming horror film CASE 39—having dropped out of another of the studio’s fright projects, the remake of the Asian chiller THE EYE, which is now in turnaround. CASE, which itself recently transitioned from Morgan Creek and Universal, was scripted by Ray Wright (one of the writers on Dimension’s upcoming PULSE redux), and will star Zellweger as a social worker who rescues a 10-year-old girl from abusive parents—only to discover that the threat is far greater. Kevin Misher and Steve Golin will produce the movie, which is set to roll July 31 in Vancouver; a director is currently being sought. This marks Zellweger’s return to the genre after starring in the lead role of TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE: THE NEXT GENERATION a decade ago.
