Fango got word from Anchor Bay, confirming what we’d first reported a few months back: The company has picked up Adam Green’s slasher homage HATCHET. A big-screen release in cities across America is scheduled for April 2007, with exact date and theater-count details to come. “I am honored and humbled by Anchor Bay’s desire to distribute HATCHET theatrically,” Green says. “Their library holds some of my most coveted titles, so to have HATCHET live amongst such classics as HALLOWEEN and EVIL DEAD is a dream come true.”
Written and directed by Green, HATCHET follows a nighttime tour group into the Louisiana swamps, where they run smack into the legend of the villainous, deformed Victor Crowley (Kane Hodder), who wields the titular blade, other weapons and his bare hands against them. The cast is headed by Joel Moore, Tamara Feldman, Deon Richmond, Parry Shen and Mercedes McNab from BUFFY and ANGEL, with brief turns by genre fixtures Robert Englund, Tony Todd and Joshua (BLAIR WITCH) Leonard. HATCHET’s official site can be found here, and its MySpace page here; we’ll bring you updates as soon as we hear ’em!
