Magnet Releasing, the genre arm of Magnolia Pictures, has annouced that it has picked up North American rights to Toby Wilkins’ horror film SPLINTER.
The movie, currently in postproduction, is about a parasite that takes over the bodies of its victims and traps an ex-con and a couple he’s taken hostage in a remote gas station. Wilkins, an FX artist with credits including THE MANCHURIAN CANDIDATE and James Cameron’s GHOSTS OF THE ABYSS, turned director with the TALES FROM THE GRUDGE on-line/DVD shorts and was recently signed to helm THE GRUDGE 3 for Ghost House Pictures and Columbia. “With its taut, terrific script and Toby Wilkins’ directorial and special effects talents, SPLINTER has a great shot at being a truly iconic horror film,” Magnolia president Eamonn Bowles says.
The movie will hit theaters next year.
