Variety reports that Screen Gems’ remake of THE STEPFATHER has cast Dylan (CONGO) Walsh, Sela Ward and Penn Badgley in the lead roles. Walsh, who’s been changing the faces of others for five seasons on NIP/TUCK, steps into the shoes of the 1987 film’s Terry O’Quinn, playing a man who alters his identity to marry into fatherless families, then kills them when they don’t live up to his exacting standards. Ward plays his latest wife, and in a gender change from the original, the suspicious daughter previously essayed by Jill Schoelen is now a teenaged boy played by GOSSIP GIRL’s Badgley. In addition, Adrianne Palicki, who played Sam’s ill-fated girlfriend in TV’s SUPERNATURAL, is currently in talks to play the son’s gal pal.
The new STEPFATHER will be directed by Nelson McCormick from a script by J.S. Cardone, both encoring from Screen Gems’ redux of PROM NIGHT, which opens April 11; filming begins next March or April.
