Moviehole reports that Sheldon (SHALLOW GROUND) Wilson will direct SCREAMERS 2, the sequel to the 1995 sci-fi/horror feature directed by Christian Duguay and co-scripted by Dan O’Bannon. In that film, released under Sony’s Triumph banner, a group of soldiers led by Col. Joe Hendricksson (Peter Weller) took on the titular deadly batch of living mechanical weapons that could not only self-replicate but eventually evolved to the point where they could take human form. In the follow-up, once again set on the planet Sirius 6B, a new space platoon answers a distress call and discovers a group of survivors holed up in an old military base, still fighting the Screamers—which one of them was responsible for creating. Casting is underway for the movie, which will presumably by a Sony direct-to-DVD release. Wilson’s credits include the well-received indie GROUND as well as the killer-birds opus KAW, which Sony issued on disc earlier this year.
