LOU DIAMOND’S RED WATER
FANGORIA caught up with Lou Diamond Phillips todayno stranger to horror with his appearances in BATS, ROUTE 666 and WOLF LAKE, but this time Lou’s got a new killer beastie to deal with in his new TBS cable movie RED WATER: a giant vicious bull shark. In case you’re not an icthyologist, the bull shark is one of the rare forms of shark that can actually swim in fresh water.
‘I’m actually very excited about that one,’ Phillips enthuses. ‘I think it should be pretty good. It’s myself, Kristy Swanson, and Coolio. It’s a shark movie and I have to tell you, the shark is amazing. The shark is just nuts and it might be one of the coolest ever to appear in a film. It’s just a fun movie, and I think we really overachieved on the film. All the actors were just brilliant and the director, Charlie (CHRISTMAS RUSH) Carner, did an amazing job, so I have high hopes for it as a film. I hope that it will be a highlight for TBS as well.’
What sets RED WATER apart from other such shark movies is that just because you stay out of the ocean doesn’t mean that this predator can’t get you. ‘This was based on the scientific fact that a bull shark can actually survive in fresh water and prefers to prey in shallow waters, so that makes it unfortunate for swimmers!’ exclaims Phillips. ‘Ours is a bull shark that gets into a Louisiana river. I got down there and everybody on the filmMichael Goi, our D.P., Charlie, our casteverybody was so ready to play, and we’ve done what I hope is going to be considered a really, really upscale film for television. On a thriller level, it’s going to be a really exciting movie.’
The Sony-produced RED WATER, which just wrapped up shooting in South Africa, will air in August.
