The Pillock Socks, no hang on, the Hammock Cox…No wait a minute..the ‘Dibbuk Box’, that’s it! The Sam Raimi (‘The Evil Dead’, ‘Drag Me To Hell’) produced spooky tale has just got itself a shiny new 2011 release date. Director Ole Bornedal (‘The Substitute’) will be helming ‘Dibbuk Box’, from a script by Juliet Snowden and Stiles White (‘Knowing’, ‘Boogeyman’). The story is of a real-life box sold on eBay that apparently housed a malevolent spirit from Jewish folklore.
Lionsgate plan to release this bad boy next Halloween weekend on 28 October 2011. Sam Raimi and Robert Tapert’s Ghost House Pictures will produce.
“An article published in the LA Times in 2004 by Leslie Gornstein is the basis for the story where the box gained notoriety in 2004 when it sold on eBay (multiple times) after causing inexplicable bad fortune to its owners, which was attributed to a dibbuk.”
