Fresh from his faux performance as himself in ‘I’m Still Here’, Joaquin Phoenix is poised to restart his ‘real’ acting career. At the beginning of this month it was reported that Pheonix would be taking on a role in the upcoming Seth Grahame-Smith novel adaption ‘Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter’. He was due to play Benjamin Walker’s (Abe) mentor. However, it seems for reasons unknown that the whacky Joaquin has not managed to get the part in the Timur Bekmambetov project after all. Instead it apepars that ‘Mamma Mia’ and ‘Tamara Drewe’ star Dominic Cooper is negotiating for the part as we speak. Actor Anthony Mackie also joins the cast as Abe’s best pal!
“When Abraham Lincoln was nine years old, his mother died from an ailment called the “milk sickness.” Only later did he learn that his mother’s deadly affliction was actually the work of a local vampire, seeking to collect a debt owed by Lincoln’s father. When Abe learned the truth, he vowed revenge and kept one passion hidden throughout his life: the brutal elimination of all vampires. His valiant, bloody fight against the undead was all but lost to history, until Grahame-Smith stumbled upon the secret journal of Abraham Lincoln. Using the journal as his guide, Seth reconstructs Lincoln’s life story and uncovers the role vampires played in the birth, growth, and near-death of our nation. You don’t know Abe. Honest.”
‘Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter’ arrives 22 June 2012.
