BUBBA HO-TEP GETS DISTRIBUTION
In the best news weve heard in a while, Vitagraph Films, the distribution arm of LAs American Cinematheque, has announced that it has picked up Don Coscarellis BUBBA HO-TEP for U.S. release. So far theyve announced a September 26 opening date at New Yorks Angelika Theatre, followed by an October 2 debut at LAs NuArt Theatre. More theaters in those cities are currently being negoitated, and other national playdates will follow. BUBBA HO-TEP, of course, is the story of how a geriatric Elvis Presley (Bruce Campbell in his best performance yet) battles a soul-sucking mummy in a Texas rest home with the help of another resident (Ossie Davis) who thinks hes JFK. This is the latest in a string of notable genre releases from Vitagraph, which has also given Stateside big-screen bookings to the likes of Takashi Miikes AUDITION and HAPPINESS OF THE KATAKURIS and the currently in-release German chiller TATTOO.
