For those that lapped up more Grindhouse goodness in Ethan Maniquis and Robert Rodriguez’s action thriller ‘Machete’ back in 2010 will be happy to know that the sequel is set to kick off shooting this coming April. Danny Trejo, star of the original movie, will return once again for ‘Machete Kills’ as Machete Cortez, the betrayed ex-Federale with revenge on his mind. In the follow-up, which has just gained financing from AR Films US sees Machete recruited by the U.S. Government to stop an eccentric billionaire arms dealer. Kyle Ward penned the script and the sequel will once again be helmed by Rodriguez himself. The original feature boasted a top supporting cast that included the sexy Jessica Alba (‘The Eye’), Steven Seagal, Michelle Rodriguez (‘Resident Evil’), Jeff Fahey (‘Planet Terror’), Cheech Marin (‘From Dusk Till Dawn’), Don Johnson (‘Miami Vice’), the oft-troubled Lindsay Lohan and also Robert DeNiro. No word as to whether any of the surviving characters from the first movie will be returning for the follow-up.
“The new film finds Machete recruited by the U.S. Government for a mission which would be impossible for any mortal man. Machete must battle his way through Mexico to take down a madman cartel leader and an eccentric billionaire arms dealer who has hatched a plan to spread war across the planet with a weapon in space. Machete takes on an army in an effort to dismantle a plan for global anarchy.”
