It appears that ‘District 9’ and ‘Elysium’ helmer Neill Blomkamp’s little ‘Chappie’ has been given an early release date announcement. It was only last week we discovered the directors third back-to-back planned sci-fi project which revolves around an AI robot called ‘Chappie’ who is stolen by two gangsters who want to use him “for their own nefarious purposes”. Shooting begins this Autumn/Fall and has Ninja (aka Watkin Tudor Jone) and Yolandi Visser of South African rap-rave band Die Antwoord on board to play the gangsters, and will also co-star ‘Slumdog Millionaire’ actor Dev Patel and feature the voice of Sharlto Copley -below (‘Elysium’) as the robot.
‘Chappie’ is due to open on 27 March 2015.
