Michael Dougherty’s ‘Trick ‘r Treat’ is one of the most impressive Halloween-based horror offerings in recent memory. Sadly due to the endless delays the project faced it got pushed back two years and ended up with a straight to DVD release back in 2009. Which was certainly not representative of its quality. So news of an impending sequel in the works should come as music to most ears. Last night during a fan Q&A session with the director following a special screening of the Halloween classic Dougherty revealed that a ‘Trick ‘r Treat 2’ is currently in development with Legendary Pictures. And this time he’s hoping for a theatrical release. Head below to watch the panel video.
“It’s funny because when I first dreamt up the idea of making the first film, I thought, ‘How neat would it be if we made them a series?” Dougherty tells EW “I’m a firm believer that October should be filled with Halloween movies, or horror movies.”
“I think we’ll shake it up a little bit,” he continues. “There are different archetypes I’d like to explore, different types of monsters. We covered werewolves, vampires, and zombies, but there’s a whole slew of different creatures out there that we have’t tackled, and I think Sam would probably be pretty good buddies with. So I think it’s time to let them have their time in the sun.”
