Confirmation of a ‘Pacific Rim’ sequel has been officially announced – the bad news? Don’t expect to see it before 2017. Due to director Guillermo del Toro’s busy busy schedule it means we won’t be seeing a return of the jaegers or indeed the Kaiju now until 7 April 2017. “The characters I love will return,” he told BuzzFeed. “Raleigh, Mako, Newt, Gottlieb and who knows, maybe even Hannibal Chau – but we are taking them into a fresh territory that will display amazing sights and battles. The first film set the stage and now we’re ready to have a blast.” Even though there is now quite a wait it does appear that the franchise will live on in the meantime with the development of an animated series as well as more entries in the comic book series. Zak Penn (‘X-Men: The Last Stand’) will pen the follow-up.
