TORONTO’S MIDNIGHT MADNESS
The Toronto International Film Festival is one of the biggest of it’s kind, and every year it’s attracting more and more amazing talent and films. One thing us horror fans can drool over that also keeps getting better is it’s Midnight Madness programming, featuring a new horror film every night of the festival, and this is year looks to be the coolest one yet.
First up on September 5th is the North American premiere of Vincenzo (Cube) Natali’s latest film, Cypher. The story is about a man that takes a job as a corporate spy but has his identity stolen from him and has to fight to recover it. Natali had a bit more of a budget (enough to be able to afford Lucy Liu, at least), but I’m sure he worked with it well.
A small movie from a new director, Alexandre Aja, called Haute Tension debuts on the 7th. It’s been described as very intense.
Underworld will also be debuting the night of the 8th, and if you need us to tell you what that’s about, you obviously haven’t been following horror for too long.
The Grudge is playing on the 9th, and this one film you should cancel your plans for. The dead hate the living, as Mr.Parker would say, and their hate is about to be unleashed inside an old house. See the original before the U.S. remake tames it down.
Takashi Miike’s supposed ‘last’ horror film, Gozu, will be unveiled September 10th, and I’m sure it’s going to be just as manic and insane as the man’s best work.
One of the Corner’s favorite films, Undead, will be playing on September 13th to close the fest, so if you’re in the area please check this out, it’s definitely a movie you should see with a crowd.
