Orion To Rise From The Dead?

ORION TO RISE FROM THE DEAD?

Remember all of the grief George Romero’s adaptation of The Dark Half was dragged through on the way to its delayed theatrical release because Orion Pictures was going bankrupt in the early ’90s? It definitely signaled a messy end to a company that brought us Robocop and The Silence of the Lambs.

According to The Hollywood Reporter on Friday the mighty lion known as MGM is seeking a business partner to exhume Orion Pictures as a genre-friendly theatrical and direct-to-video distribution arm. Think Senator Intl.’s Ghost House Productions, Miramax’s Dimension Films… You get the picture. MGM made perfectly clear that should they breathe new life into Orion this act will in no way infringe on the relationship they have going with United Artists who has released their fair share of horror flicks.

Keep in mind, this announcement doesn’t mean Orion’s possible resurrection is a sure bet. But if MGM finds the right partner, it could open the door for more genre artists out there and the potential to get more genre projects off the ground.
