MURDER-SET-PIECES FILMMAKER THREATENED?
Could a serial-killer movie be so rough that it lands its creator in jail? Thats the potential problem faced by writer/director/producer Nick (NUTBAG) Palumbo as he wraps MURDER-SET-PIECES, his latest slasher yarn.
‘Technicolor, the lab that was processing MURDER-SET-PIECES, threatened to sue us because the movie is so violent,’ Palumbo tells Fango. ‘They wanted to contact the authorities and stop working on the movie. Because I show everything, even children being killed. KILL BILL is nothing compared to this. The movie is NC-17 all the way, which is how we will release the film. The lab watched the film and said, We dont know about this ‘
Shot for $1.6 million on 35mm, MURDER-SET-PIECES concerns a wealthy fashion photographer (soap star Sven Garret) who moonlights as a serial killer. Palumbo compares his film to HENRY: PORTRAIT OF A SERIAL KILLER and MANIAC, while others rate it up there with the French bloodbath HAUTE TENSION. ‘Its scary and creepy,’ Palumbo says. ‘But besides the gore, MURDER-SET-PIECES has an edge to it.’
MURDER-SET-PIECES wrapped in Las Vegas after a protracted four-month shoot. The film boasts a number of familiar genre names in the cast, including Tony (CANDYMAN) Todd, Cerina (CABIN FEVER) Vincent and TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACREs Gunnar Hansen and Ed Neal. ‘The roles are cameos, shot in a day or two,’ Palumbo notes, ‘but the scenes are meaty ones.’
The films nasty murders come courtesy of Toe Tag Pictures. ‘They are Savini School graduates,’ Palumbo says. ‘They take makeup effects to a new level.’ DESECRATION/TOXIC AVENGER IV cinematographer Brendan Flynt shot MURDER-SET-PIECES, while the film is being edited by veteran cutter Todd Ramsay, whose credits include SOUL SURVIVORS, EXORCIST III, HIGHWAY TO HELL and John Carpenters THE THING. ‘Todd thought my film was a challenge,’ Palumbo says. ‘He couldnt believe how horrific it was. He says it beats HENRY by 1,000 percent.’
Palumbo expects to have MURDER-SET-PIECES ready for summer, at which point he will begin shopping the film to distributors. Find out more at www.frightflix.com.
