A TOOLBOX SEQUEL?
The success of Tobe Hooper’s Toolbox Murders remake (review) has been pleasantly surprising to everyone involved in making the film happen, not the least of which includes the production house Aquarius Films. The film has now sold in 29 countries and will be getting a theatrical release in the UK this September. In the States it’s still not known what’s going on with it, though Fangoria was rumored to be looking to nab the release rights a while back.
So what happens when low-budget horror is successful? Sequels! In a recent press release from Aquarius, they stated there is, indeed, a sequel in the planning stages for Toolbox, with intentions to turn into a new horror franchise. Creatively we’re not sure who is involved at this point, but I’m sure we’ll be finding out soon enough.
Now that they’ve seen what a decent budget and some directorial freedom can do for them, Aquarius intends to continue producing low-to-medium budget horror titles, and are actively seeking them out as you read this. Check out their official site here for more on their numerous projects.
