MONSTER HOUSE AT SONY
Sony Pictures has swooped in and picked up the rights to MONSTER HOUSE from DreamWorks which let the project fall in turnaround. The animated film is being produced by ImageMovers, the company owned by THE POLAR EXPRESS director Robert Zemeckis. Zemeckis will utilize the same kind of animation style used on EXPRESS to create MONSTER HOUSE, that being the filming of actors against a greenscreen and then later animating their performance. The technique is called performance capture.
The movie’s storyline follows a trio of children that discover their neighbor’s house is really alive and making evil plans for the neighborhood. When adults don’t believe the kids that there’s a demented dwelling in the neighborhood, it’s up to the children to somehow stop the monster house before its diabolical plans come to fruition.
Helping produce with ImageMovers is Zemeckis’ longtime friend Steven Spielberg. Sony’s in-house CGI animation company, Imageworks, will render the film. Production on MONSTER HOUSE is now slated to commence on August 23. The film was written by Gil Kenan who will also direct the show.
