Spanish director Nacho (AFTERMATH) Cerda’s first feature film, BLOODLINE, began shooting two weeks ago in Bulgaria. Genre specialist Filmax is producing the 3-million-euro production, which stars Karel (HELLBOY) Roden and British actress Anastasia (THE HOLE) Hille. Co-writer Karim (SUBCONSCIOUS CRUELTY) Hussain filled Fango in on the details: “BLOODLINE is based on an original screenplay that I wrote, which over the last couple of years I rewrote numerous versions of with Nacho in Barcelona. Since I am busy preparing my new directing feature LA BELLE BETE [THE BEAUTIFUL BEAST] that shoots in August in Montreal, Richard [HARDWARE] Stanley came in to do some last-minute production polishes on the script with Nacho. I spoke to Nacho recently, and he’s very happy with the way the film is turning out. The cinematographer is Xavi [THE MACHINIST] Gimenez, who is providing some very strong and creepy images.”
BLOODLINE is a strange ghost story about a woman who travels to Russia to investigate her unknown past, only to find out that the isolated farm she grew up on is haunted by her own doppelganger. “Fans of Nacho’s short movies, AFTERMATH and GENESIS [see review in FANGORIA #246, out next month], should find this to be similar in some ways yet quite different in others,” Hussain says. “The screenplay is really a combination of three minds: Nacho’s, mine and Richard’s, so it’s a pretty fun mix of different visions of the world. We’re all excited by it! The film should be out in fall 2006.” For more info on BLOODLINE, check out its Filmax International webpage here.
