Starved after the loss of BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER and ANGEL, audiences have taken to the WB Network’s teen-friendly SUPERNATURAL, which has shown “four weeks of impressive ratings growth,” per WB president David Janollari. The channel has awarded SUPERNATURAL a full-season, 22-episode commitment.
“SUPERNATURAL has delivered in a huge way for us, with genuinely scary episodes every week, and it just keeps getting better,” says Janollari in a statement. “Eric Kripke, McG and Bob Singer have done a terrific job executing their vision, and we expect the show to be a long-term player at The WB.”
For those into statistics, SUPERNATURAL has scored impressive numbers for the WB in the Tuesday 9-10 p.m. time slot, achieving strong #3 ranks in the hour among men 18-34 and 12-34. The new series has posted double-digit increases vs. the time period last season across the male demos, including a gain of 75 percent in 18-34 and 73 percent in 18-49, as well as achieving year-to-year growth of 5 percent in adults 18-49. SUPERNATURAL is also outpacing the time period a year ago in total viewers, jumping 4 percent to 5.3 million.
After four weeks on the air, in which the show’s evil-busting heroes faced off against a vengeful lake wraith, bested a Wendigo and conducted a mid-air exorcism (!), SUPERNATURAL continues to rack up viewers. Last Tuesday’s episode equaled the program’s season-high ratings across all 12-34 demos and improved over the prior week in nearly every key demo.
Starring Jared (HOUSE OF WAX) Padalecki and Jensen (DEVOUR) Ackles as Sam and Dean Winchester, SUPERNATURAL follows the brothers as they crisscross mysterious country back roads in their bitchin’ ‘67 Chevy Impala. They’re on a mission to find their missing (but clue-dropping) father, hunting down every evil force they bump into along the way. SUPERNATURAL is executive-produced by McG (CHARLIE’S ANGELS), writer/creator Eric (BOOGEYMAN) Kripke and Robert (MIDNIGHT CALLER) Singer. See STARLOG #339 for a report on the show.
