ANNE GWYNNE PASSES AWAY
Actress Anne Gwynne has passed away at the age of 84. She suffered a stroke following a surgery at the Motion Picture Country Hospital in Woodland Hills, California.
Born Marguerite Gwynne Trice in Waco, Texas, Anne is predominantly recognized by horror fans schooled in the classics for her turn in ‘The Black Cat’ (1941) and ‘House of Frankenstein’ (1944). Sci-fi aficionados most likely remember her as Sonja from ‘Flash Gordon Conquers the Universe’ (1940).
It was her lengthy career at Universal that pitted her into the world of horror. Anne signed aboard Universal’s film slate at the age of 20 and performed in over 30 films for the studio. The actress never peaked beyond her supporting character roles, but her beauty was recognized by many (she was a pin-up queen).
According to the official Gwynne fan site, the actress was always incredibly receptive to fans and attended countless geek cons to sign autographs and have pictures taken.
A private memorial service will be held at the Motion Picture Country Lodge in Woodland Hills, CA. Donations may be made to the Motion Picture Fund in her name. For information call 818- 876-1900.
