Just when you thought the Tarman took his last cranial chomp, MGM is apparently bringing the ol’ gooey boy back, along with the rest of his RETURN OF THE LIVING DEAD pals, for a new special-edition DVD nearly five years after a pretty thorough release.
Fango caught the scent of this new outing over the weekend, and didn’t have to look far to discover that some hardcore fans of Dan O’Bannon’s 1985 zombie romp already have it on their radar.
According to this site here, co-stars Linnea Quigley, Beverly Randolph, Don Calfa, Brian Peck and Allan Trautman (the Tarman himself!) and designer William Stout gathered in Hollywood to record a new commentary track complete with undead groans provided by zombie performers (?!). You can click the link above to see a pic from the session.
New interviews with James Karen and Thom Matthews have also been set down, but no details regarding other bonus features have been exhumed, nor whether those from the previous disc will be carried over. O’Bannon, legendary for his fastidious manner, has already voiced that he does not want any part of this disc—and rightfully so. In a letter to the aforementioned site, the filmmaker’s wife claims that MGM still owes the director a chunk of change for his involvement in the first special-edition DVD.
