The rumour mill surrounding the anticipated comedy horror sequel ‘Ghostbusters 3’ is, as expected, currently in overdrive. You can’t go anywhere at the minute without at least someone speculating as to who they think will join the cast. Well one man who knows better than most would be co-writer and star Dan Aykroyd. He appeared on radio station WGN Radio Chicago and he’s been trying to clear things up. They are “open to finding some fresh faces” but also stated that two names flung around, Bill Hader (‘Superbad’, ‘Paul’) and the stunningly gorgeous Anna Faris (‘Scary Movie’, ‘The House Bunny’), are “strong possibilities”! Even Eliza Dushku’s name popped up once again. Exciting stuff! Original stars Sigourney Weaver and the twisted arm of Bill Murray will both return, and Ivan Reitman is back in the helmer’s seat.
No word yet on the plot details but this bad boy will hit theatres sometime in 2012. Columbia Pictures is aiming at a May 2011 start date, with a second draft of the screenplay currently being prepared.
This follow-up could go either way really. It could regenerate a whole new series of ‘Ghostbusters’ films or become another unnecessary follow-up. Either way it’ll likely make a pot-load of cash.
