With the sad news that the For the Love of Horror 2020 convention at Bowlers Exhibition Centre in Manchester has been postponed until 2021 we roll the clock back a year to our interview with Tobin Bell at the 2019 event.
For the Love of Horror in Manchester comprises of the best of the best names in the horror realm and is the absolute MUST-VISIT event in the UK if you’re a horror aficionado.
Last year’s line-up was a strong one indeed where the world’s first Lost Boys Reunion took place with Kiefer Sutherland in attendance and other names such as Kane Hodder, Bill Moseley, Tobin Bell and the cast of the IT Mini-Series were all in Manchester spending time with fans.
For the Love of Horror is a convention unlike any other. A convention where you can wrap snakes around your neck, shop the weirdest and most unusual merchandise from all over the planet and walk through a custom-built scare maze free of charge that was a very unique experience indeed.
If that wasn’t it a whole carnival was built outside comprising of various rides including a fun house and a beautiful Carousel reminiscent of the iconic funfair scene from The Lost Boys film.
Attending the press day I was honoured to meet the IT Miniseries Cast, Kane Hodder and Bill Moseley.
Sid Haig had not long since passed and was due to attend this event. The organisers set up a memorial table for him at the convention and Bill Moseley paid tribute to his co-star and dear friend. It was a very moving tribute.
Once the interviews had wrapped I was told that Tobin Bell was upstairs in a hotel room and as there were only three press outlets interviewing downstairs he wanted to speak to us.
Into the elevator I went. Incredibly nervous. A huge Saw fan like myself walking this corridor knowing a horror icon was lurking behind this ominous hotel door.
Tobin was such a warm, gentle and kind man. I spoke to him about sport, the relevance of the Saw movies some 15 years later and more.
Once the interview had wrapped I got Tobin on a tour of Manchester United football club and he loved every second of it!
