    10 HORROR MOVIES UNEARTHED

Steve Biro, president of DVD company Unearthed Films (JUNK) called up with big news about a series of upcoming horror features he￿s involved with. ￿We￿re finalizing the financing for 10 horror films we￿re producing,￿ he tells Fango. ￿We￿re working with a gentleman named John Rodsett, who￿s with Media Vision, and he￿s working in conjunction with Unearthed Films in funding, producing and distributing a package of 10 horror films, with a budget of $1 million each. My business partner, Paul White from Cinesales, produced SOCIETY, BRIDE OF RE-ANIMATOR, NIGHTWISH and a few others, and he￿s good friends and business partners with John, so they￿ve been working on this for a little while. The first movie we￿re doing is SOCIETY 2: BODY MODIFICATION. I don￿t know if Brian Yuzna will be involved with it or not; he￿s got the script, but he￿s so busy with Fantastic Factory that we don￿t know if he￿ll be able to come on board. Richard Stanley is interested in directing, but we haven￿t finalized that yet. We￿re also talking with KNB about doing the effects.

￿I￿m the writer on that film,￿ Biro continues, ￿and also on another one we￿re doing called DRUNKEN MASTER VAMPIRE PRIEST. That one￿s going to be outrageous￿I￿ve got vampires, werewolves, zombies and a crossbreed called ￿zompires￿ in it. We￿re going to try to push the envelope so far with that one￿it￿s just going to be balls to the wall, so hopefully that will show people we mean business as far as the gore is concerned.

￿We￿re trying to get interesting names to direct all the films we￿re involved with. We￿ve got Frank Henenlotter on board with a film called LOVE IS HELL, and this is a crazed one. Basically, it￿s about a guy who tries to commit suicide, and no matter what he does, he doesn￿t die. He ends up giving his soul to a succubus￿I don￿t want to say much more than that.￿

Biro adds that he and White are directly involved with half of the first 10 projects, with Rodsett bringing in the other five. Biro outlines the other films and filmmakers involved: ￿We￿ve got UNSEEN, about a town invaded by mysterious beings, for which Eric [EVILSPEAK] Weston is the proposed director. There￿s one called FAITH, to be directed by Ray Brady, who did BOY MEETS GIRL [a British shocker to be released by Unearthed November 11]. It￿s a classic battle of good and evil, a community leader vs. a powerful satanist. THE CLOWN is written and will be directed by Mark [LEPRECHAUN] Jones, and has to do with the devil arriving at a carnival disguised as a clown, searching for a necklace with special powers. VARMINT is about a giant, nasty animal killing people in a small town, and will be directed by Michael Bafaro. He￿s also doing BROTHERHOOD OF THE UNDEAD, which is a WWII film where the dead soldiers come back as flesheating zombies.

￿SOMETHING WICKED, directed by Allen [PHANTOM OF THE RITZ] Plone, is in the Lovecraft genre; it￿s about a demon summoned in the 15th century that stalks the family of a countess who first raised him from the underworld. SCARED YET? is about a college fraternity that buys a haunted house￿it￿s kind of like ANIMAL HOUSE meets SCREAM, directed by Paul Williams [not the singer] and written by Larry Kirchner and James Dean Schulte.￿ The latter two also wrote the original script for the upcoming Tobe Hooper film BREW.

And finally, Biro reveals that he may be involved in the sequel to one of Unearthed￿s most successful releases. ￿They￿ve just asked us in Japan if we want to come in on JUNK 2,￿ he says. ￿So it looks like that￿s going to be made, with the same director [Atsushi Muroga].￿
