DRACULA NEXT PLAYS BEOWULF
Variety reports that Gerard Butler, who first came to attention as the Count in DRACULA 2000 and also stars in the coming screen version of the PHANTOM OF THE OPERA musical, tackles yet another literary creature when he takes the lead of BEOWULF AND GRENDEL. Based on the epic poem about a Norse warrior who takes on the titular monster, the Canadian/British/Icelanic co-production begins a 10-week shoot in the latter country beginning in August, filming on real glaciers, a fake 6th-century village and a Viking ship mockup. Icelandic director Sturla Gunnarsson is at the helm, working from a script by co-producer Andrew Rai Berzins. We trust that this one will turn out better than the lamentable Christopher Lambert-starring BEOWULF from several years back.
